Macromedia Flash Player ActiveX Plug-in

I have installed the Macromedia flash player plug-in in CE 5.0 to play .swf files with a stand-alone flash player. However, the player then keeps reporting that it cannot find the plug-in! Has anyone had any success with this procedure? I have installed version 6 and version 6 of the plug-in with the same results. Thanks.
